Your Letters: Rally to Support Veterans

During the summer, our association held a modest Rally to Stand Up for Our Veterans, where a petition was signed by Canadians who are concerned by the changes happening within Veterans Affairs Canada and wanted Parliament to review these changes before more veterans suffer. Our petition was taken to Ottawa by London-Fanshawe MP Irene Mathyssen, who has been working diligently on our veterans' behalf.

The sentiment from our rally has turned into a national day of protest, being held today at 10:30 a.m. in Victoria Park. The Remember November 11 Association organized this rally in support of our veterans, and have invited members of Parliament to attend and bear witness to the level of frustration being felt around the country. The veterans have said they need Canadians to stand up for them, and we agree. We feel our local MPs are not the problem and it lies within Veterans Affairs.

Our veterans deserve to have Canadians speak out for them, and the national day of protest is a great way to accomplish that. It's also a way to show support for veterans ombudsman Pat Stogran, who leaves his position on Nov. 10, much to the dismay of many veterans.

"Support the Troops" is more than just a slogan for a car magnet.
