LONDON – Tonight, just days before Christmas, the employees at the Kelloggs plant in London will be out of a job, having worked the last shift at the 107 year old plant.
“Today, a London institution is closing down for good. Londoners are saying goodbye to yet more jobs while the Conservatives sit idly by,” said NDP MP Irene Mathyssen (London-Fanshawe).
Under the Conservatives, 400,000 good manufacturing jobs have disappeared, yet they’ve failed to take action. The only thing the Conservatives have mustered are broken election promises.
“Here in London and the surrounding region, we’ve paid dearly for the Conservatives’ mismanagement of the manufacturing sector. Kelloggs, Electro-Motive, Vytech, Ford Talbotville, McCormick’s, Heinz - all closed. Many others are operating at reduced capacity,” said Mathyssen. “Londoners are tired of the Conservatives dropping in during election season and leaving us with job losses and plant closures the rest of the time.”
