LONDON- Visitors will be able to enjoy and experience our local and regional history year round at Fanshawe Pioneer Village thanks to a $1 million investment by Heritage Canada for the construction of the Spriet Family Visitor Centre.
"I am delighted that this commitment has been made to support the expansion of Fanshawe Pioneer Village," said London-Fanshawe MP Irene Mathyssen in whose riding the Pioneer Village is located.
"I supported this application from the beginning, because I recognize the value of the Pioneer Village to our community," said Mathyssen. "Over the past few years the Pioneer Village has enjoyed a revitalization with record numbers of visitors. The staff and board undertook a private sector fundraising initiative to raise funds for this project and this federal funding represents the final component needed to go forward. This will enable the facility to offer year-round exhibitions and programming and provide our community, and visitors to our community, with memorable historical experiences."
"We are truly thankful for the incredible support shown by local MPs like Irene Mathyssen for the Spriet Family Visitor Centre," said Shelia Johnson the executive director at the Pioneer Village. "This significant contribution supports an important regional project and emphasizes the essential role of Fanshawe Pioneer Village in the preservation of our past for future generations."
