LONDON – On June 13th, 1944 Private Michael Sydorko landed in Calais with fellow Canadians in the Lake Superior 4th Regiment Armoured Division to help liberate France from Nazi occupation.

Having been nominated by his Member of Parliament Irene Mathyssen, Sydorko has been awarded the rank of Knight of the National Order of the Legion of Honour by the French Government.  First established by Napoleon Bonaparte, the award is the highest decoration in France.

Poverty affects many people in our community. The stereotypical image of the homeless person or the panhandler is only one face of poverty. Countless children go to school hungry. Thousands of families rely on the Food Bank to put a meal on the table. Many seniors are forced to choose between filling a prescription or paying their rent. These are just a few examples of the many faces of poverty in our community.

Oxford People Against the Landfill Public Townhall Meeting

LAWC CEO Run/Walk Fundraiser

According to Statistics Canada, 1 in 4 women will experience abuse from a partner during their lives. The London Abused Women's Centre exists to change this situation. The agency does this on an individual basis by providing counselling, advocacy and support to abused women. It also participates in advocacy, public education and research. On a wider level it is working to create a safer environment for women and children by working actively to change the legal, social, and education systems.

Grand Opening of Fanshawe College CATT

Fanshawe College's new Centre for Applied Transportation Technologies (CATT) is set to become one of the most advanced transportation training centres in the country.

The new CATT will accommodate 1,500 students who are seeking job-ready credentials in trades and technologies that support the transportation industry. The finished building will have 16 classrooms, 13 labs and 7 shops… as well as lounges, a cafeteria, and office space for the newly-renamed School of Transportation Technology (formerly, School of Motive Power Technology).

April 16th is the day when thousands of Londoners will work together to help "clean & green" our city's neighbourhoods and parks and the Thames River. We will pick up litter, remove graffiti and plant trees.

Homeless Coalition Soup & Bread

The London Homeless Coalition holds its annual spring "Soup & Bread" event at Covent Garden Market to raise awareness of and have a community conversation about poverty, homelessness, and the lack of affordable housing in London.
As she has done since her election in 2006, Irene Mathyssen will be in attendance, helping to serve lunches and engage citizens in this important discussion.

First, students at UWO’s Ivy Business School have organized a LEMON-AID contest to raise money for the Boys and Girls Club. To reflect the current federal election, part of this project will be a “Lemonade Vote” poll: Londoner’s will be asked to buy ORANGE,or the same old same old red & blue lemonade to reflect their party preference.

Help Irene and the NDP win the poll by joining us at Irene’s campaign office, 1682 Dundas Street, between 5:45 and 6:15 to buy some orange lemonade, and donate to this most worthy project.
